ROHIT SHARMA SCORES 264 in ODI!!! RECORD BREAKING IN GALORE
« on: November 13, 2014, 06:37:33 pm »
Rohit Sharma notched up his second double hundred in ODIs, becoming the first batsman to reach the landmark, and also sped past Virender Sehwag's 219 registering the highest individual score in ODIs getting out for 264 off 173 balls in the fourth ODI against Sri Lanka at the Eden Gardens, Kolkata on Thursday.

During his epic knock the opener hit 33 boundaries and nine sixes and scored runs at a strike-rate of 152.66. The knock also helped India notch up their fifth team score of over 400. India eventually went on to make 404 for 5.

He though missed out on the becoming the highest individual scorer in List-A games, missing the landmark by just four runs. Ali Brown of England holds the record with the score of 268.

Mind Boggling Facts From Rohit Sharma’s Mind-Boggling 264

  • When he was on 4, Rohit Sharma was dropped at third-man by Thisara Perera. Rohit made 260 runs more. That makes Perera’s drop the most expensive in the game’s history. Rohit was dropped twice more: once on 201 and then on 222, right after he had claimed the world record from Virender Sehwag.
  • Four double-hundreds have been scored in ODIs. All of them are by India. Sachin Tendulkar started the trend with his 200* against South Africa in 2010. Virender Sehwag hit 219 against the West Indies in 2011. And Rohit himself had 209 against Australia in 2013.
  • Rohit now is the only man to score two ODI hundreds. His last ODI hundred, incidentally was that 209.
  • During that 209, Rohit slipped while attempting a run and ran out Virat Kohli. Today, Kohli was run-out again. This time, it was probably Kohli's fault as he was slow to complete the second run.
  • Rohit Sharma took 72 balls to reach fifty runs. It was the 24th over of India’s innings. Pfft. What a slow coach, right? Here’s the mind-boggling bit. It took him only 26 overs (or 101 balls) to score 214 runs more. That’s nearly the world record of 219 in just half an innings.
  • In the days gone by, the thumb-rule in ODIs was to double the team’s score at the 30-over mark. India did much better than that today. They were 169-2 in 30, making 235-3 in the back 20—that’s almost 12 runs an over.
  • What about Rohit? At the end of the 29th over when India took the batting Powerplay, Rohit was 78 not out. So he more than tripled his score in the back 20.
  • In the 35th over, he had moved to 132. He doubled that score in the next 15 overs. The second 132 came off just 57 balls!
  • Here’s a break-down of his innings: 50 in 72 balls; 100 in 28 more, 150 in 25 more, 200 in 26 more, and 250 in 16 more. He averaged 23.7 balls for his last four fifties after the 72-ball mark. This rate of scoring—and the duration of this rate of scoring—is unprecedented.
  • Rohit struck 33 fours in his innings. It's the new record for ODIs, overtaking Virender Sehwag and Sachin Tendulkar's record of 25 each. Sehwag, during his 219 against the West Indies, and Tendulkar during his 200* against South Africa.
  • Rohit now holds both records for most sixes and fours in an ODI. During that 209 against Australia, he had hit 16 sixes to set a new record.
  • Today, Rohit hit nine sixes as well. That takes his boundary tally in the game to 42. That beat the existing record of 32 by Sehwag (in the West Indies game) by 10 boundaries! That equals the record for any List A match. Rohit now shares the record with Alistair Brown.
  • There’s more on his boundaries. Rohit’s boundary runs amounted to 186! That’s nearly a double hundred in boundaries alone. Bear in mind that once upon a time the world record was nearly 186: Vivian Richards’ record of 189*, followed by Saeed Anwar’s 194.
  • In making 186 runs just standing and hitting, Rohit beat Shane Watson’s record of for most runs in boundaries in one game. In 2011, Watson went medieval on Bangladesh, making 150 in fours and sixes – 15 each.
  • Rohit batted 173 balls for his knock. No man has batted longer in a fifty-over ODI. He beat the existing record for fifty-over games by one ball. In 2007, Canada’s Ashish Bagai batted 172 balls against Scotland in Nairobi. Bagai had made 137—a little more than half of 264.
  • Virat Kohli added 202 runs off just 155 balls with Rohit. Virat’s contribution to the stand was a mere 66. Rohit did all the heavy lifting. But that’s not even the most mind-boggling partnership of the innings.
  • Rohit added 128 runs with Robin Uthappa. When their stand reached 100, Uthappa’s contribution to it was just 12 runs!
  • Here’s the most mind-boggling bit about the innings. On the last ball of India’s innings when Rohit took strike and got out, he was one six away from becoming the highest scorer in any one-day game. Had that shot gone for six, Rohit would have broken Alistair Brown’s record of 268 for Surrey against Glamorgan in 2002.
