Engineering entrance / Punjab B.Tech Admissions 2014

Punjab B.Tech Admissions 2014– The last date to pay counseling fees is June 20, 2014. Candidates who wish to apply for the admissions to the B.Tech courses in Punjab must pay the counseling fee of Rs 2000 by June 20, 2014. The punjab BTECH admission 2014 payment portal has been opened on May 21, 2014 for all the B.Tech aspirants. Candidates must have qualified in the jee main 2014 exam to be eligible for the Punjab B.Tech Admissions 2014.

Eligibility & Selection Criteria

-Student must have passed the 10 +2 examination from a recognized board or from an establishment recognized by central/ state government through a legislation
-Student should have studied with Physics and Mathematics as compulsory subjects along with one of the following subjects: Chemistry / Biotechnology / Computer Science / Biology
-The student must have appeared in JEE 2014 mains conducted by CBSE. Final admission is subject to Merit in JEE 2014.

University Grants Commission (UGC) has directed University of Delhi has to obtain appropriate approval from the AICTE for its B.Tech programmes in Computer Science, Electronics, Food Technology, Instrumentation Electronics and Polymer Science started in academic year 2013-14. However, the Supreme Court, in its order has mandated that prior approval of AICTE is compulsory and mandatory for conduct of a technical course by an existing affiliated Technical College for conduct of its Technical Courses/ Programmes for the academic year 2014-15. Therefore, the approval for B.Tech programmes became mandatory. Regarding approval of All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) for the B.Tech course conducted by the colleges affiliated to University of Delhi, the Hon'ble Supreme Court, in its Judgment dated April 25, 2013, had excluded colleges affiliated to University from the definition of "Technical Institution" as defined under Section 2(h) of the AICTE Act, 1987. Therefore, B.Tech. Programmes started by University of Delhi, in academic year 2013-14, did not require approval of AICTE, as per the prevailing case law at that time.

Where do Power Engineers Work?

The safe and efficient operation of these support utilities has been the responsibility of Power Engineers in North America for more than 120 industrial facilities, the support utilities may range from a single, small boiler in a small commercial building, to a more complex system of boilers, refrigeration, and air conditioning in a typical high-rise building, hospital, school, etc. Industrial facilities also vary in size and complexity, including extremely large operations with several large boilers, electrical generators, steam and gas turbines, pressure vessels, and the whole range of related equipment. Many industrial facilities require their Power Engineers to operate not only the support utilities, but also the processing sections of the operation. Facilities that typically require Power Engineers include (but are not limited to):

Hydrocarbon Processing Plants (refineries, gas plants, etc.)

In the Indian context, with millions of rupees being invested in building power plants across the country, it is evident that engineering graduates with power engineering background have very good placement options in the coming days. B.Tech in power engineering will have good demand and it is a great opportunity for all those who wish to make their career in power plants. As per the data available, in India, there are nearly thirteen engineering colleges producing nearly 600 power engineers. Fire OS is a linux kernel-based mobile operating system produced by AMAZON for its Fire phone and Kindle fire range oftablets, and other content delivery devices like the FIRE TV. It is Forked from Android. Fire OS primarily centers around content consumption, with a customized usr interface and heavy ties to content available from Amazon's own storefronts and services.
While the Kindle Fire line has always used customized distributions of Android, particularly 2.3.3, API level 10  and 4.0.3, API level 15 (kindle fire hd), Amazon only began referring to the distribution as Fire OS beginning with its third iteration of Kindle Fire tablets, which includes the Fire HD 2nd generation and Fire HDX models. Unlike previous Kindle Fire models, whose operating system is listed as being "based on" Android, the Fire HDX "Fire OS 3.0" operating system is listed as being "compatible with" Android

Native Android App Compatibility-

Most Android tablet apps will already run on Fire OS 3.0, as it's built from the Android open source kernel (Android 4.2.2) and runtime libraries. In fact, 75% of the tablet apps that we've tested that run on Android also run on Fire OS, with no additional development work. Of those that don’t, most are a result of easily resolved issues such as incorrect product descriptions, or problems caused by apps being optimized for phones

Support for HTML5 apps allows developers to offer their web apps and mobile websites on Kindle Fire tablets in the same convenient way as mobile apps. As one of the only platforms to offer HTML5 support, developers can submit and distribute mobile web content without using third-party software or any mobile development. Fire OS uses a customized user interface designed to prominently promote content available through Amazon services, such as AMAZON APPSTORE, Amazon instant video, Amazon mp3, and Kindle Store. Its home screen features a carousel of recently accessed content and apps, with a "favorites shelf" of pinned apps directly below it. Sections are provided for different types of content, such as apps, games, music, audiobooks, and video among others. A search function allows users to search through their local content library or Amazon's stores. Similarly to Android, sliding from the top of the screen exposes quick settings and notifications. Fire OS also provides integration with Goodreads, Facebook, and Twitter. X-Ray is also integrated into its playback functions, allowing users to access supplemental information on what they are currently viewing. On the Kindle fire hdx and Fire phone, an additional function called "Mayday" allows users to connect directly to a support agent for assistance via one-way video chat. Amazon claims that most Mayday calls would be answered within 15 seconds. The OS features a user system, along with Kindle FreeTime, a suite of parental controls which allow parents to set time limits for using certain types of content.

Fire OS devices are exclusively tied to Amazon's software and content ecosystems; they do not offer any access to google play or provide any of Google's proprietary apps or APIs, such as Google maps or Google cloud messaging. In lieu of Google Maps, Fire OS offers Nokia here maps with a clone of Google Maps API 1.0. As Fire OS is incompatible with Google's official Android compatibility standards, Fire OS devices cannot include Google's proprietary software or use the Android trademarks. As members of the opwn handset alliance (which include the majority of Android OEMs) are contractually forbidden to produce Android devices based on forks of the OS, Kindle Fire tablets are manufactured by Quanta computer, who is not an OHA member.

Latest NEWS / IEEE to launch Kochi's space centre exhibit

Kochi, The world's largest technical society IEEE will here Wednesday launch E-Scientia -- a hands-on scientific space centre exhibit where students will take the role of engineers and solve simulated space flight challenges.This is the sixth installation in the world of E-Scientia project and is put up at the Centre for Science in Society (C-SiS), CUSAT that will be open to the student community.This exhibit is intended to engage pre-university students to raise awareness and interest about careers in engineering disciplines."The exhibit takes students/visitors on an engineering-themed adventure using multimedia, interactive and hands-on exploration of science and technology concepts. During the experience, students are challenged to take on the role of engineers to solve challenges posed during a simulated space flight," said Suresh Nair, chair, Institution of Electronics and Electrical Engineers (IEEE) Kochi Subsection."The installation is a mock-up of the inside of a space station. As the interactive commences, the students are made to sit on individual docks, each controlling a different section of the spacecraft - navigation, fuel control etc. Each section fails and the students are then made to design miniature electronic circuits which would put the system back on track," said Nair.The flagship IEEE E-Scientia exhibit was established at the Espacio Ciencia in Uruguay in 2010 and is now available at Hyderabad, Shanghai, Pretoria and Mexico City.The project here has come up on a joint initiative of IEEE Kerala Section, IEEE Kochi Subsection and IEEE Kerala Young Professionals.

The SAT is a globally recognized college admission test that lets you show colleges what you know and how well you can apply that knowledge. It tests your knowledge of reading, writing and math — subjects that are taught every day in high school classrooms. Most students take the SAT during their junior or senior year of high school, and almost all colleges and universities use the SAT to make admission decisions.
Taking the SAT is the first step in finding the right college for you — the place where you can further develop your skills and pursue your passions. But SAT scores are just one of many factors that colleges consider when making their admission decisions. High school grades are also very important. In fact, the combination of high school grades and SAT scores is the best predictor of your academic success in college.

The SAT is broken into 10 sections:

-3 critical reading sections (200-800)
-3 mathematics sections(200-800)
-3 writing sections(200-800)
-1 Unscored section

overall- 600-2400

How to apply for SAT?

There are two common ways of registering for SAT:

1. By mail: Obtain the "SAT Information Bulletin" available free with USEFI offices or from collegeboard website.
Fill in the form, get the draft made (if you are not paying by credit card), and use the envelope provided with the form to mail these to:

2. Online Registration (Credit Card required): Fill up the form online and mention your credit card number. This is the easiest way to register for SAT.

Students and parents often ask counselors to state what a good score would be. A useful answer is that a good score is any score that gets a student into the college of his or her choice!
When you look at your score you need to remember that an SAT score is not an absolute value. It is a scaled score to indicate your performance in comparison with that of the other 2 million students who take this test every year.

Scores can go up and down according to how you feel on the day of the test or how well you have prepared. Parents need to be warned that it is not an absolute indicator of their child's intelligence.
-That said, on a total score of 2400 (800 critical reading, 800 math, 800 writing)
-a score of 1650-1800 is adequate for many colleges
-a score of 1800-2100 is good
-a score above 2100 should ensure that you have no problems for admission (if all else is in order!)

Understanding SAT Score-

You get one point added to your score for each correct answer on the SAT, and lose one-quarter of a point for each wrong answer (except for Grid-ins). If you leave a question blank, you neither gain nor lose points. Incorrect answers to Grid-ins have no effect on your score. The totals are added up for all the Verbal and Math questions, and that produces two raw scores.

These numbers are not your SAT scores. The raw scores are converted into scale scores, each on a scale of 200 to 800, and these are the scores that are reported to you and the schools you apply for. The reports include sub-scores as well, but most schools focus on the three main scores.

Subject Tests are hour-long, content-based tests that allow you to showcase achievement in specific subject areas where you excel. These are the only national admission tests where you choose the tests that best showcase your achievements and interests.SAT Subject Tests allow you to differentiate yourself in the college admission process or send a strong message regarding your readiness to study specific majors or programs in college. In conjunction with your other admission credentials (your high school record, SAT scores, teacher recommendations, etc.), they provide a more complete picture of your academic background and interests.
Some colleges also use Subject Tests to place students into the appropriate courses. Based on your performance on the test(s), you could potentially fulfill basic requirements or receive credit for introductory-level courses.

The KEAM 2014 Online Applications will be available from January 11, 2014. The Kerala CEE has released the KEAM 2014 prospectus as well as the dates for the KEAM 2014 entrance exam to be held on April 21 and 22, 2014.

Candidates must apply online for KEAM 2014 after paying the KEAM Application Fee of Rs 800 (Rs 400 for reserved categories) through Security Cards obtained from select Post Offices ot through a DD drawn on any nationalised bank in favour of the Commissioner for Entrance Examinations, payable at Thiruvananthapuram.

About KEAM: KEAM has been conducted by the Commissioner of Entrance Examinations, Kerala Government to provide admission to the students in various engineering courses in the institutes in the state.


Candidates must have completed 10+2 from a recognized board

They must have obtained a minimum of 50% in Maths as well as 50% in aggregate in Physics and Chemistry.

Engineering Diploma holders are eligible if they have secured a minimu of 50% in their Diploma exam.

Candidates must be 17 or above by December 2013.

KEAM Selection Procedure
: on the basis of the Merit marks obtained in KEAM 2014 (Engineering Paper 1 & Paper 2) and the marks obtained in Class XII or equivalent in Maths, Physics and Chemistry in the ratio 50:50.

KEAM 2014 exam pattern:

Candidates will have to appear for a written test in
Paper 1: Physics and Chemistry
Paper 2: Mathematics
Duration of the each Paper: 150 minutes
Total No of questions are 120 carrying a total of 480 marks

In case of payment through the Post offices, candidates must collect the Security card containing the Unique Key No needed to fill in the application Form.
A Printout of the Application Form along with enclosures and other specification must be sent to the CEE office below.

Application Fees: Rs.800 for general category and Rs.400 for SC/ST category

Application fee can be paid via: DD or cash payment at select Post Offices
