java vs. php after 2nd year CSE
« on: March 26, 2016, 01:19:42 am »
Hello senior's,

I am a 2nd year student of CSE grad, I am confused about certifications ( Java or php ). I am interested in web development so I want to start with php but many people says Java would be great for campus placement or big giant tech companies coz mostly these companies don't use php at all for their projects. & also tell me the scope of web developer in india. Please help & reply ASAP. I will join immediate(next day ) after the reply. Don't want to waste my time now.

Thanx in advance!

See learning a language is just a matter of a week or so
you dont have to go for any training or something. If you know how to program in C++ then learning php or Java would be easy,of course the advanced concepts will take sometime but you dont have to learn everything at once , try to learn those thing which you require to do.
Try to learn some framework and simultaneously work on something related to it so that you learn it also and you will be having something to show( in case you want to apply for internship )
These thing will take more or less a month or even less and then apply for internship

And about web development , actually everything you do like app dev aur whatever everything will end up with web development.
what i am trying to say is everything is connected to web directly or indirectly , and by web i am not referring to HTML CSS (thats designing )
i am talking more specifically about the backend part and stuff like API development etc.
So yes web dev is very important

And big company dont have any specific requirement
they want you to be good at algorithms and this is the thing which is much harder to learn and will take years of practice.
learning a framework/language is a matter of weeks but learning algorithms and implementing them will take you months and years of hardwork( start with codechef or spoj for practice )

IF YOU FIND MY LINKS NOT WORKING. PM ME OR POST A REQUEST ON THE THREAD!!

If you are really interested in web development ,, then learn javascript.. javascript can serve as backend+UI..
Its a bit tough to get than php,,but more secure than php.
For php...
Start with alex videos on newboston..
After going through all of them go to phpacademy.org..
Try to program using OO concept as much as possible..
And once you feel a bit comfortable go for php's most used framework "laravel"..
Its really really imp to learn atleast one framework of php..
And instead of going for some certification courses i would suggest you to work on some project..
And if you really want certification then go for 'zend' certification exam..
Thats the best you can get in php arena..
Learn MongoDb for databases.
And as Ezio said,, dream companies are mostly concerned with your knowledge in core computer science subjects i.e algo,ds,dbms..
