Weighted Average(CPI%) vs. Arithmetic Mean
« on: December 09, 2011, 03:35:27 am »
Seniors, passouts please post here about the significance of CPI% and normal average of marks in IPU in terms of placements, higher education and any other thing you'd like to tell about them.

I know how Wt. Average is calculated but wanted to know, who sees what?

Lets say,B. Tech overall percentage is required in a off-campus interview/higher education application what would the firm/institute be more interested in?(specify whether guess-work/here-say/trusted source/experience).

All companies see only average percentage. CPI is only for determining rank list by University.(experience)

total of max marks in a semester  in 1st year is 1200
                                                          2nd year is 1000
                                                          3rd year is 1100
                                                          4th year is 900

how is % calculated
>>    (%1 year+%2 year+%3 year +%4year )/4
or
>>    total marks of all 4 year obtained/total max marks of all 4 years

You can do it anyway..answer will be same. A minor difference will be there as there are approximations in first method.
