If requred, info of any above universities, plz ask abt. it. i will upload every detail of that univ/ colg . thanku!!!

hi sir...thanx for posting all these valuable info :adore1
i am in fourth year and my average is 67 with some backlogs(CGPI is lesser, ofcourse)....so what are my chances for the top univ like MIT, CALTEC,Prinston, etc if I did very good in GRE, is getting schoarship easy based on GRE for these univ?
i neither have good academic record nor extracurricular activities :frus
and if not these, then what about the chances in the colleges for 'Average Students' with scholarship?
I know that doing M.Tech even in an average US college is much better than doing it from IITs, only B.Tech is what matters in IITs

sorry to say sir but to avail scholarship at mit u must have xtraordinary acedemic n xtracurricular achievements which is nearly impossible like as bringing gold medal for country in sports or discovering one or more elements. the fee of mit is 20000 dollar per semester!
and  avg univ lile auburn also demand academic achievements  for scholarships.

ur better gre score will definately not change ur  colg list but it will atleast help u cover up for d low academics n those terrible no. of backlogs.

I am currently in second year, btech(cse).I have a good academic record till now but i am not too much involved in extra curriculars. So could you give me suggestions as to improve upon my extra curricular profile .Also I would like to know if it would be advisable to give the test in my 4th sem?

see all you have to do is get some
internships related to subject of specialisation (which you will choose for m.tech) in your profile. Your engg subjects are based on CS and if you're applying as a fresher, you need to convince the admission committee about the same.
So, do some good smart projects, some research work, internships, probably a year or two work ex after graduation will make the entire profile strong. Hence, the chances
to get the best school will become much
easier. and plz dont think that sports are must for gre. it will just make ur condition favourable.
And lastly cgpa around 8.0 to 8.4 will do fantastic (though not mandatory, even cgpa around 7.6 can work).
And take GRE in or after 6th semester but
before 7th semester so you can give
enough time for application process.
Start your preparation in 5th semester.
3-4 months should do for GRE.

ONE THING I WANNA MAKE CLEAR TO ALL MEMBERS THAT SPORTS ARE NOT MUST FOR GRE.
THE ONLY THING WHICH IS MUST, IS A STRONG PROFILE IN FRONT OF THE COMMITEE.
IF YOU HAVE PUBLISHED MULTIPLE RESEARCH PAPERS AND HAVE DONE GOOD AMOUNT OF TIME IN INTERNSHIP (IN THE AREA OF YOUR SPECIALISATION, WHICH YOU ARE GOING TO TAKE IN MS), THEN IT WILL WORK MORE THAN SPORTS.

RECOMMENDED BOOKS FOR GRE-
1) Maths and Quants- NOVA are best for these subjects and are easily available in markets.
2)Verbal- PRINCETON and KAPLAN will do work. but remember, do only verbal section from princeton.

SIGNIFICANCE OF RESEARCH PAPER IN YOUR PROFILE-
I have came across many queries where members were asking about relevance of sports and other things like publishing of research paper, etc.
for sports, i had replied in my earlier posts that it is not required, but if you have any sports related achievements then it will surely help you.
now talking about reasrch paper, it is also not 'a must required condition'. Actually, publishing a research paper is itself a tough task and since only 10% of candidates are with research profile there is no need to worry about it.
But, if u are having it, then surely it will do fantastic!!!

You have to choose between-
1) The computer based Gre general test
2) The paper based gre general test.
Both have six sections- first one is analytical writing section and then the next five sections consisit of two verbal reasoning sections and quantitive sections and last one is either experimental or research sections.
for engineering programs universities may give more emphasis to your score of quantitive sections, but it is not mandatory, the value depends upon programs of universities and university to university.
fee free to ask anything.
