Post by: A M on July 28, 2014, 09:03:56 pm

About CAT

The Common Admission Test (CAT) is an all-India test conducted by the Indian Institutes of Management (IIMs) as an entrance exam for admission to the Post-graduate and Fellow Programs in management courses of several management institutes all over India including the IIMs.
The CAT score is used separately by each institute along with other parameters i.e. academic performance, work experience, group discussion, written assessment and interview performance etc. to select candidates. The weightage assigned to CAT score may differ for each institute. Candidates are advised to read the weightage, process and breakup for each institute on its respective website.

For without-work-experience-male-engineers-in-general-category, well arguably enough, life is the toughest when it comes to cracking CAT. You are lucky if you aren't. Considering you to be in this very situation, anything above 95 is a must.

Start preparing from mid of your 3rd year, that is definitely a good time. Just focus on your basics.

what should i do for preparing MBA?

what should i do for preparing MBA?
1) Analyse ur academics first. If you belong to general category and you have less than 70% marks in 10th and 12th, then there is a good chance that you will be rejected by a good number of old IIMs, unless you have got 99-100 %ile in Cat.
2) Some institute doesnt consider 10th and 12th marks for ur evaluation. You can go into these if you have spoiled your 10th and 12th. Ex- FMS, DELHI. Etc.
3) Prepare for apti, reasoning and english atleast one year before appearing in CAT.
4) Have a list of sound extracurricular activities to mention in ur resume. Ex- I have been head of xyz fest of my college and i have managed blah blah amount of finance. Or, i have been head of abc society of my college and have managed blah blah blah.
5) Have a clear answer of 'why MBA?'
Ex- I am going for a startup in ecommerce related to books. I have made the app and is currently running in tie up with x numb of book shops...and i want to expand my business ...so i want to go into mba.
6) If you havnt extracurriculars to mention, have  1-2 years job experince atleast and use this experince to justify your reason to do mba while in interviews.
7) Be fluent in spoken english. Its must. No excuses.
