TIPS FOR SCORING GOOD MARKS (UPDATED ACC. TO NEW SYLLABUS)
« on: December 28, 2015, 11:24:29 am »
APPLIED MATHEMATICS 3
This semester's maths is the easiest maths in all of three. Unit 1, that is fourier series and fourier transform takes a bit time beacuse of the "non-distinguishability" of fourmulas  :qui. Thereafter maths is a cakewalk. There are z transforms, difference equations, numerical methods etc. etc... easy topics. A two day study before exams will fetch you around 70-80 marks or more. But dont take any subject too lightly.Make a good hold on concepts so that it is easier to summarise all of them before exam. BS Grewal is best book we have till now(for IPU) and also our paper's every inch is from BS Grewal. So guys prefer BS Grewal over VP Misra and others.

FOUNDATIONS OF COMPUTER SCIENCE
Another easy subject. There are sets, relations, functions, graphs, permutation and combination blah blah  :P algebra topics. Some topics only needs to be revised as we had studied them in school days(not a long ago  8-)). But guys this subject is very important for CS and IT students so please clear your concepts throughly. There are some proofs, Inclusion-Exclusion Principle, Five color theorem, Euler's fourmula, pigeonhole principle, cosets lagrange’s theorem, please do them surely they are sure shot in exam. Book:- Kenneth H. Rosen is what i prefered beacuse our teacher said so, but I will say it is a good book or it may be that i cant able to find a better alternative. Guys if u find one let me know i will update it.

SWITCHING THEORY AND LOGIC DESIGN
Attention guys!!!!. Although topics are easier but it is the vast syllabus that makes it a tough nut. "PLEASE STUDY THIS SUBJECT AT LEAST 5 HOURS IN A WEEK.". Unit 1 is an easy one there are Universal gates, Adder, Subtractor ,Serial Adder, Parallel Adder- Carry Propagate Adder, Carry Look-ahead Adder, Carry Save Adder, Comparators, Parity Generators, Decoder and Encoder, Multiplexer and De-multiplexer, ALU, PLA and PAL(Uff... I just copied from syllabus ):() and also the overview of codes and Boolean Algebra is also there. Furhter there are flip flops, after you understand flip flops there is designing of synchronous and asynchronous counters using flip flops. Unit 3 is basically about designing of clocked sequential circuits. For that you have to study state diagram, state table, state reduction techniques and state assignment (not much tough stuff) then there is FSM or finite state machine which consists of mealy and moore are just type of representations depending upon the dependence of output on input (dont get confused now they are not that tough). Unit 4 is about Algorithmic State Machine and fault detection. ASM are more like flow charts(but they are not) anyway it is an easy topic. Fault detections is all theoritical techbits have notes they are more than enough for fault detection.
Books:- There are many but i will say you should prefer either Morrison Mano or A. Anand Kumar.

CIRCUITS & SYSTEMS
There are two categories of students, one where students say that "kya fuddu subject h ek raat m ho jaega" and others say that "abey yaar back na aa jae". To be on safe side study at least four days before exam. KM Soni is good book and will fetch you more than passing marks or even in the range of 80-90. Guys study this subject please.

DATA STRUCTURES
Here it is. DS is the most important subject for CS and IT students. Although DS is a very easy subject but you will have to study and understand algorithms instead of cramping them. Passing is not a big deal here. Do study regularly beacuse DS takes time. You can prefer schaum series but if you want to study in depth prefer data structures using C by Tanenbaum.

COMPUTER GRAPHICS & MULTIMEDIA
Easiest Subject of 3rd semester. 90% theoritical and remaining 10% is also not that much tough. Transformations(2D,3D), projections requires a bit of good mathematical grip over vectors and matrices. There is a Clipping algorithm which can be understand easily. There are also scan conversion algorithms which are, DDA algorithm, bresenham line drawing algorithm, bresenham circle drawing algorithm, mid point circle drawing algorithm. Refer combination of schaum series and pauline baker.

Material worth claps.  :clap
But there are slight mistakes at few points.
Let me correct them.

Maths- If u are from ece or eee, then learn this part of mathematics by heart. Fourier transform finds applications in communication system , digital signal processing etc. It also finds application in a tough subject- power electronics (to find the harmonic contents of converters).
Z- transform is the soul of digital signal processing- a subject which u are gonna study in 6th-5th sem.
Further, if u are aiming for GATE, IES, PSU exams like SAIL etc then learn this subject by heart.
Abhi nhi padhoge to last year padhna Hi padega if u are dreaming for some really good government jobs.

And if u are just aiming to settle urself in some software companies of Bangalore, noida, hydrebad then just mugg up and pass the exam.

Switching theory and logic design - a big fancy name for "digital electronics".
Best book for beginners is malvino and leach. You must go through it if u are studying it for the first time. Though it's syllabus is not as per ggsipu. Refer to some different books for rest part of syllabus.
This subject is just like " suhaag ka sindoor" for an ece student. If u are from ece then u r never supposed to take this subject lightly. Just learn it by heart.
Every interviewer asks tonnes of ques from this subject if u are from ece. By interview, I'm not talking about nonsense software companies from Bangalore, noida, etc. I'm talking about interviews of BARC, DRDO, ISRO, IES, PSUs like BEL, BHEL etc
Syllabus wise, counters topic is the most difficult part but the most important one. Especially the designing of counters is very tough. Counters finds applications everywhere, from the launching of rockets of isro to traffic lights, etc

Circuit and system- If you are from electrical, then don't dare to take it lightly. Various derivations in subjects for coming semesters will employ the concepts from this subject. Don't create a weak base in the first place itself.
Equally important for ece students.
Cse students ke liye koi imp nahi hai. Just pass it. It won't bother u ever.
And yep, never leave it for cramming in the last moment.
Start studying it from the beginning of semesters else exam ke pehle ye subject rula dega.
K m soni is the best book for ggsipu students but the worst book for GATE, PSU, IES, etc.

Guys mere hisaab se maths  ,cg and fcs are easiest subject of this semester

DS is moderate , for those students jinke pass high school mein c++ nhi thi plz do attend lectures otherwise this subject will become a nightmare for you baaki is subject mein algorithm hi yaad krne hote hai and some imp topics like trees need attention so to conclude i would say that its an easy subject if you do it with devotion  book : shaum is good enough

Now come the two imp subjects which are not actually difficult  but become a nightmare because of vast syllabus and concepts

STLD - is subject ne mera boht dimaag kharaab kiya hai because i always tried to cram things up and never tried to understand it
but it was before final exams that i realized ki ye boht easy subject hai agar devotion se padha jaye to bus syllabus thoda zyada hai so dont leave it pending on the last day before exam just
book: anand kumar  ( the pink one )

CS- this subject is also a nightmare for those who dont like numericals (like me ) kyunki is subject mein uske alawa aur kuch hai hi nahi
like stld this subject is also easy lekin agar exam se ek din pehle numerical krne baithoge to nightmare to lagega hi
just practice solved example from km soni and u will clearly get good marks and this is also not a last day subject

so dont take these two subjects lightly

Guys so I have C&S exam day after tomorrow, and on looking at last year papers it seems the whole paper is based on numericals only!!
Please help as to how to study it in thse 2 days so that I can score good?
I have literally no idea about this subject :-(

Important topics would be appreciated :-h

Also regarding theory in first and 2nd unit , do I need to study it? Or just go for numericals only?
