Title: Tips for exams
Post by: Cosmos on January 08, 2011, 08:53:04 am
Mathematics-

solve all examples from VP Mishra(if u want moderate score)...for more go for exercise as well...doing examples will fetch you around 70-80.....

Physics-

its syllabus is not that difficult...try to learn all the derivations....chapters comes in units....e.g.1 unit consists of 2 ques,in which you have to do just one....most of the times 1 ques is from one chapter and another from another chapter...so you may skip some topics of a chapter you found boring and uninteresting....luck favours and you are through...

write all the answers in points

Chemistry-

Have a look at the previous year papers....phase rule is an important chapter....practice numericals from sunita rattan....

ITC-

notes from the photocopy shop and some previous knowledge is enough to score good in this exam....

MP-

write all answers in points....college notes are enough...try to lerarn it by heart....it requires just two days for its preparation(you will be zero to hero in MP in two days)....

CS-

write in a good handwriting....improve your presentation skills.....presentation will fetch you extra marks....

Advice-

try to write all the answers in points....

best of luck....

practicals ki tension mat lo yaar... you should be rather more concerned on viva..
viva acha gya to sab acha ho gya.. all iz well  :xd:
anyways, for practicals take a quick look at the practicals you've performed in lab.

TIP : Do 2,3 practicals at its best. Practicals are allotted in lottery fashion, if you get the one you have done, then you're lucky and if not, lab assistant se baat karke practical change karwalo and be lucky by crook..

Best of luck

For practicals, everything matters in quantity. Viva is must so clear ur basics what u performed in lab
eg. MP lab -> all tools knowledge, process of exp.
Chem. Lab -> u should aware about terms molarity, molality, 1g equivalent salt means
physics -> interference & diffraction diff., fringes
..these come under the hood of basics
& completion of ur file also matters so be prepare :)
[attendance naam ki cheez bhi honi chahie lab me]

Post by: Shankynayak on December 04, 2011, 12:38:26 am
For theory, write all the answers in points & don't leave any question blank.. What u know just put it on paper
eg. ITC -> u all are aware about the terms like ram, rom, gen. Of comp, hardware, software which u are learning from school days so, write in confident manner.
Best of luck guyz !!

engg drawing mein how will marks be given out of 40(internals) ,and external mein agr viva accha ho jaaye aur sheet gadbad then wat happens?

P.S. :there was no viva or practical exam fr  fr us in internals.

Don't worry for ED, its an easy to score subject. In ED, marks will be distributed acc. to ur sheets maintenance i.e. happened with us. sheets me koi panga nhi hoga as they r too easy.. Just understand how to plot the layout of figure.

then for your internals all of you will get marks in accordance with your sheets, each student may get an avg score between 30-40..
for externals they don't follow any specific pattern, at my time we've been given a question paper with 5 questions, we have to attempt any 3.......!!
prepare well for ED, as ED is the only practical exam where backs are given :(

my ED external is tomorrow thats why i am freaked out!!!!i hav submitted 3 out of 5 sheets given as assignments , so how much can i get in internals  like 20 se kam toh nahi milenge na ,  and  viva ke jo questions hote hain r they easy of difficult ??

ED ke 100 questions ki ek file  post ki gayi hai , most of the things hav not been taught to us  , like scaling t-square etc. so can they also come .

P.S. -- i am frm usit so if any usit seniors r there on the forum plzz reply!!!!!!

Internals me 20 above to mil hi jaenge as ur 3 assgn. submitted. At my time, viva was easy. I don't remember the all que., one of them was ->
what is line?
Draw a image of figure that xternal drew.

Learn about the basic sizes of sheets and pencil types, gain knowledge about lines and their types, solids, planes etc. Various projections need to be understood ..rest is ur luck & nobody can't predict what's in xternal's mind :-P
all the best :)

4 students were asked to come at a time , mujhse poocha gaya auxiliary planes ke baare mein about which i knew (auxiliary planes is only in usit syllabus ) then i was asked to draw traces of these planes on hp and vp , which is just like any other normal plane.      To my fellows some simple questions like  view on profile plane  is a point so wat is fv and tv , etc, were asked. then  ques. about polyhedra like cube tetrahedron. etc were asked.   it is given in ND bhatt in pro. of solid lesson . so basically viva was   eays. bas hamare ed ke internal tyeacher ne mere -5 kar diye as tym was over and i continued to draw , i dont no why he couldnt give 1 min extra , phew!!!

Are 4 days not enough?? (http://smileys/cutemoticons/anim_63%5B1%5D.gif)

Its your choice. Even if you study for practicals, you will cover the theory part atleast of physics, chemistry, etc. So just keep preparing for Maths side by side.

@Anupam15,
its depends on ur preparation whatever u have covered in internals for theory so set ur time table according to that for both the. & pract. ..
keep on preparing maths if i.e. ur weak point.

I am in same situation .....
I haven't even made sheets also . Plus my external is tmrw.
Maine bas aaj frnds s sikhaa ki sheets kaise draw karni h . And now i knew how to draw 3 types of them . It will be better if u wud try to learn from your frnds rather than from any buk as in buks puri ram katha likhi hui h.
Plus there are around 100 questioons along with answers in ED section of techbits which are sufficient for VIVA.

each sessionals carry a weightage of 10 marks in the end terms , so obviously it will affect your end term marks if you dont score good............

Well they do carry a certain weightage in the final marks so yeah they will affect marks.
And there is very less tension during the semester exams if you have a descent score in the sessionals.

All societies provide you an opportunities for Workshop, and if you do workshops of renowned companies, you will obviously get benefits of learning something new, get Certificates, which may come handy at time of placement.

2nd sessional will not include syllabus of 1st sessionals, the syllabus for second one is different.

calci allowed hai kya exam mein?
wich one?
can i use more than 100ms?

Yes it's allowed ! :)

I have used 990 MS in my end term exams without any problems.

Is it allowed from 1st year itself..?

Yup , it is allowed during the whole course ...

OOPS...I asked it from my maths teacher and he refused...!!
HE said "Abhi zarurat nahi hoti...2nd year ya 3rd year ke baad lena...aur exams mein calculator allowed nahi hota.."

But our physics practical teacher said to get one...!!

SO really confused.. :at wits end  :at wits end  :at wits end

So do I need a Scientific Calci..?

Normal calci wont be of any use for many of the calculations !
If you dont have a scientific calculator then you would not be able to solve the papers !

Look i didn't used any calci in whole 1st year though nearly all the classmates were having during the end terms . There is no doubt in the fact that they are allowed in the exams , so just get one(scientific one) . It will definitely help in simplifying your calculations during the papers and thus saving some precious time ...

bro , MP ke liye Akash ke papers ate hain last three years ke , wo le le , maine usi  mein se padha tha for both the sessionals , and i got 22 and 19 out of 30.

aur yaar physics mein derivations to rattni hi padegi , usme koi kuch ni kar sakta....  :P

physics mein bhi , if you are studying from devraj singh, then look at the previous years papers , thoda idea ho jayega ki kaise questions ate hain....
mostly questions repeat hote hain har saal...

for scoring 65+ marks every chapter's solved numerical should be done + unsolved examples also dont leave any stone unturned as u might expect anything in paper..last year there were some printing mistakes also so you must be ready for that (luckily it was a solved example of vp mishra so i knew the mistake :P )

well i got 42/75 in physics 3 years back....

but maybe i can give some advice to you....

i studied from Beiser+Ghatak+Vasudeva

all in all i wanted to grab as much knowledge as i could....

but what i experienced is that Physics won't help you in future....

so to get 60+ in physics i would suggest you:
S.P.Taneja
and write your answers in points....

and yes do study both the chapters of the unit...only then u can be sure of getting more than 60(out of 75).....

Just my 2 cents ...

Study one chapter each from each unit but dont leave any topic from these 4 chapters(what i means is yeh 4 chapters dhang se kar le) + Do previous years 2/3 marks questions of the chapters which you have left and in these questions there will be numericals also so u have to learn(ratta) all the formulaes which are imp in context of the exam from these chapters coz most of the times there is repitition of the questions in the 1st Question(which is of 25 marks) of the Physics/Chem Exam .
This is what i did in Physics in 1st/2nd Sem :) ...
Though if u have Time u can do all the chapters ...

Best Of Luck .....

For getting marks in IP is quite easy :O)
I mean u just need to work smartly.
For every subject just go for previous year papers...
In exams more than 50% paper come from previous papers or related to it...
n download the syllabus from ipu website in which subject is given in UNIT WISE.
In unit wise u can skip 1 chapter given in that unit if u have prepared the other one strongly..... :O)
And go for genuine paper given on techbits only,
N i will suggest not to buy bavya aur aakash as they will only lower ur standard..

ek din me 2 paper hote hai. ye rule last year hi aaya tha.
and yeah, deadly combination of subjects comes a lot.

But this time, each day has 1 paper only.

depends on college to college
msit mein to shayad 16 se hi hon

This doesn't happen like this. All papers happen at the same time, in all colleges. Its not like, MAIT has exam on 16th and in BVP, its on 17th  :O)

depends on person to person what stretgy he employs
from 5 th sem onwards i had a mission
to beat fucking  hell out of every exam
practical were my favourite
used to score 90+ and sometime 98 in them
i considered less than 85 as failure in practical
although practical me teacher pe bahut kuch depend karta par relatively  to tum top 5 score target kar sakte ho
viva me to faad do
itina ki log tumhare sath viva dene se hi mana kar de

theory me jitina likha sako likho
diagram bhar do
par time management bhi rakho

jo sheet milti hai uske last page tak bhar do

yaha tak final ke sheet bhi
and yes if you can fill the final exam sheet to last page
you have achieved something

aur en sab ke liye you need to work hard at least 15 or 30 days before exam you have to be serious

Since everyone is curious to know how to score in IPU exams, I've something for you all..

NOTE : These tips are not by me, but given by JADON (Moderator at Techbits)....

I followed them very well and found them damn working in IPU.. (BDW I topped my class.. :O) )

Quote/Ask Question
ways to get better marks in IPU than u actually deserve
many of you must be aware of these things already but may be will help some as well
so do like this :
1. Start with the question that u know very well...
2. And do attempt the question that u don't know at all at the very end with little bit dirty hand writing.
3. Don't leave empty space at the end of any page...coz examiner will think as if you left your question incomplete...so try to end your answer in such a way that its last line meets the bottom end of a page
4. You should have skills to extend your answer either relevant or irrelevant but starting of answer should be relevant...more you write more marks you'll get.
5. Don't leave any question blank at any cost...whatever you write you are paid(given marks) for that...
in nutshell main thing is...u sud be good fattebaj for questions that you don't know at all or for questions that you knw least...
best of luck for your exams...

To bhaiya ye baat dhyan mein rakho, jitna likhoge number milenge.. but ye mat samjho ki kuch bhi pel do, as said, start with something similar, aur fir khichdi pakao..

Yes, hardwork to karna padega...ab sab subjects ka apna tareeka hai..

for example, MP ke paper mein mast mast bade bade diagram banao, labelling sahi karo... aur ache se bharoge, to guaranteed mast marks milenge...

to add to

this time management

and one more thing sheet management

i divided sessional which were of 30 marks and had 1.30 hours as

3 question to be attempted
1 10 marks may have 5 internal question compulsory
2 10 marks may have 1 or 2 internal question
3 10 marks "

first go for question number 2 or 3
give it 25 minutes
it does not matter mujhe kitna ata hai mujhe itna pata hai 25 minute sheet me eske baare me hi likhna hai

same for question number 3 or 2

now for first compulsory i will have 30 minutes
so per quesition 6 minutes

harek question par ek sheet puri bhata tha

yani tumhare paas question number 2 or 3 attempt karne ke baad kewal 5-6 page hi bache hone chahiye
agar nahi to tumhare sheet management wrong hai

and in every sessional i made it sure ki last answer answer sheet ki last line pe khatam ho
examiner ko feel ani chahiye ladke ko ata bahut hai par sheet kam pad gayi

and last 5-10 minute under line every important point you want examiner to read
believe me it will work
underline those thing that you know are very important
like if question is of laser laser ka basic principle underlined dur se hi chamkta hua hona chahiye

Look you need to draw diagrams in each question and to be frank its not easy to grasp all the diagrams given in the book . So, my suggestion will be to understand each topic deeply and then tune up each diagram in your own way , so that you remember each topic and diagram accordingly .

Don't try to cover ALL the subjects.. There are 2 chapters in each of the 4 units.. and usually there is choice between both of them.. So, prepare one chapter from each unit ache se.. then go for the others' short questions/ conecpts (for the 1st compulsory question) and you'll surely score good . :)

Even this has happened in IPU that students have attempted paper of 70-75 marks and got marks above that.

No no no...it doesn't work like that, even in sessionals or end term exam...you have to do one full question

if both part of question are out of syllabus then you will get mark for sure
if one is out and the other is from syllabus then it depends on teacher and their decision at checking hall

if complete paper is out of syllabus then it could lead to two effect entire batch will be passed happened with my brother in mechanical stream
or re exam as pointed out above

and ha the key is to attempt
by attempt i mean writing pertinent subject
dont consider writing song movie as attempt

yes

25+75 =100
now out of this 100 you have to score atleast 50 to pass
so if in internal you got 10 then youll need 40 in external to pass

Do I need to study chapters thoroughly from books or the notes from photocopy shop are sufficient?
I'm a student of ECE at NIEC and want to upgrade to cse so please answer accordingly.
And if possible please give some details about attendance too.

If you can read thoroughly from books, then it is always better. Notes are just to prepare quickly and efficiently to score decent marks.

What do you mean by decent?
Can I score above 85 if I study from the notes from the photocopy shop and solve the previous year question papers?

See you thoroughly study from book as prescribed by your teacher.
For physics- Devraj Singh no doubt.Start from back unsolved ques as they all contains full topics as you study each ques you get answer in between chapter. By doing this you can complete previous year ques+concepts of all chapter as because those ques cover all topics of a chapter. I do same thing and I like physics most and score 74/75 in end term an easy subject.
In chem- follow sunita rattan/shashi chawla +previous ques.
In maths- bhai VP MISHRA only.....+ back unsolved exercise also pichle saal almost more than half paper of maths come from unsolved ques , direct ques came in exam as it is in unsolved exercise.
Foc- peter Norton or PK Sinha or Naraina Thakur + previous years ques(compulsory) as you get idea how paper came.
HVPE- Bhai notes hi kaafi hai college baaki zindagi main aaj take Jo bhi human values seekhi hain likha dena.
ET- difficult subject you must clear your each and every concept for this ,no help from previous paper  shayad theory ques aa bhi jaayen lekin concept should be strong. Koi ek theorem proof karne ko pakka aayegi thevenin, Norton, reciprocity, milkman etc.
I also upgraded to CSE and only 1st semesters credit percentage decide your upgradation.

Bhai most imp thing to reh gyi practical files time pe complete karna kyunki unhi se percentage increase hoti hai try to score 36+ in practical out 40

Attendance does not matter if you have minimum of 60-65℅ then you are in safe zone.
However you should confirm this from seniors of your college.

Don't get too dependent on previous years ques papers as it only gives you a rough thing about paper pattern, however bro its IPU and no one knows whether paper came in pattern or not as it changes anytime.

If you want to upgrade to cse you have to be a topper, your percentage should be above 80(or maybe 85 or more)
I think a good book is always important to build up your concepts.
Try to make your attendance more than 60 or for safe side 75(as some teachers strictly want 75) to avoid detention in mid term, more than that it doesn't make any difference
